So in the wake of everything happening with Michael Brown and Eric - TopicsExpress

So in the wake of everything happening with Michael Brown and Eric Garner, there are many different reactions from many different people of many different demographics. While this is argument as to whether or not these two cases in particular are examples of racial injustice in the US, its naïve to think that it racial injustice doesnt happen. Race aside, there are all sorts of inequality and injustice all around us, and its each and EVERY one of our responsibilities as humans to end it. You can imagine my frustration, then, when I saw someone who I was Facebook friends with use the hashtag #WhiteComplacencyKills. Words cannot begin to describe how frustrated that hashtag makes me. Injustice exists all around us and it is each of our responsibilities to take action against it. Whether you are white, black, Asian, Indian, or any other race, complacency in the face of injustice causes pain, suffering, and even sometimes death. By labelling white complacency as the only negative form, we redirect blame, point fingers, create divisions, throw up walls, and miss the point entirely. Human rights for every race, gender, and culture is not just a white issue. Social inequality is each and every single individuals issue. Sure, white complacency kills, but so does black complacency, or brown complacency, or any other complacency you can think of. The common denominator is that complacency kills. So in the face of injustice, dont be complacent. Support the oppressed, strengthen the weak, build up the broken, but NEVER be complacent, because #ComplacencyKills.
