So it appears theres a price to be paid by the truly Conservative Legislators that are willing to stand strong for the citizens of this state and offer solutions to issues that dont involve the growth of government and the further undermining of our Liberties. Senator Patrick Colbeck, certainly one of our best State Senators, was denied any of the all important Committee Chair positions by the new Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof, as reported by MIRS. Although some of the new, freshman Senators where awarded TWO Chair positions Senator Colbeck was given none. This is clearly a punishment for his Conservative positions and tireless work to prove that government expansion is unnecessary. This is a great loss to the citizens of this state and Conservative Republicans especially should be seeing RED over this despicable move by the new Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof! Is this what we have to look forward to is just a retread of the last Liberal Senate leadership? When will the Republicans of this state wake up? ********************************************* Colbeck Not Chairing A Committee Sen. Patrick COLBECK (R-Canton) is returning to the Senate next year, but he wont be chairing a committee. The first-term senator, who oversaw the State Police and Department of Military and Veterans Affairs budget was not given a chairs position for 2015, according to the assignments announced today by incoming-Senate Majority Leader Arlan MEEKHOF (R-West Olive). Sen. Mike NOFS (R-Battle Creek) will oversee the budgets Colbeck oversaw from 2011-2014 as well as continue as chair of Senate Energy and Technology. Sen.-elect Mike SHIRKEY (R-Clarklake) was named the head of two committees: Health Policy and Michigan Competitiveness, a committee Shirkey is bringing over with him from the House. Sen.-elect Ken HORN (R-Frankenmuth) was named chair of the Economic Development and International Investment Committee, replacing incoming Senate Majority Floor Leader Mike KOWALL (R-White Lake) as chair. International investment was added to the committees objectives from last session. Sen.-elect Jim STAMAS (R-Midland) was named chair of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) to replace Sen. John PAPPAGEORGE (R-Troy). He will also be chair of the General Government Appropriations Subcommittee. Taking over the Commerce Committee is Sen.-elect Wayne SCHMIDT(R-Traverse City). Sen.-elect Marty KNOLLENBERG (R-Troy) will chair the Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee, and Sen.-elect Pete MACGREGOR (R-Rockford) is set to chair the Human Services Subcommittee. Sen.-elect Margaret OBRIEN (R-Portage), who narrowly won the race for the 20th District in one of the states most competitive elections, will take over for outgoing Sen. John MOOLENAAR (R-Midland) as chair of the Veterans, Military Affairs and Homeland Security Committee. The Local Government and Elections Committee appears to have been split into two, with Sen. David ROBERTSON (R-Grand Blanc) chairing Elections and Government Reform and Sen.-elect Dale ZORN (R-Ida) chairing the Local Government Committee. In a statement announcing the chair positions, Meekhof said hes confident the committee chairs will step up to create the best public policy for Michigan residents. The Senate is prepared to get down to the business of serving our citizens, Meekhof said. The work done in committee is crucial to the development of good policy. I have every confidence in these committee chairs and I look forward to the start of the new session, he said.
