So it sounds like people want to ride tomorrow (Thursday) night. I got the OK for us to park at Goldstream Sports (thanks, Joel), so Im thinking well meet there at 6:30. Heres my idea. Well follow Ester Dome Road to St. Patrick, then catch the Happy Ridge Trail a bit further up. For those unfamiliar with it, its mostly a gradual climb and in good shape right now. The early part is softer and has a steep pitch that youll have to either air out for, get off and push, or channel Tom Clark. Theres one other steep section where just about everyone will push, but its quick. Other than that its very mellow and quite a pretty patch of woods. Actually one of my favorite trails on the Dome. After two miles well be done with all but a tiny bit of climbing and cross Henderson Roan, then ride a connector trail that will drop us on the Equinox route, which well take back to Henderson for a mile or so. A quick drop to the Ryan Lode Mine and well do a last bit of climbing, then theres a drop through the tailings field where, if the skies are clear, well get a gorgeous look at the Alaska Range. Then well take a fast and fun trail down to the Gold Hill Intertie (its the trail I posted footage of that you asked about, Christina). Well take the intertie which has some great up and down rolling, cross Henderson once more, then hit the Dredge Trail. The first part is non-motorized, and therefore very narrow and lots of fun. After crossing the next power line the trail widens out and from there to the Sheep Creek Road rail crossing its a couple of miles of amazingly fast trail thats so well packed right now youll swear youre riding on pavement. Then its up the Anns Greenhouse field and back to Goldstream for a total of just under eleven miles, a good ten of those on trails. Im open to alterations in the plan, but I want to keep this one a friendly, all skill levels ride so we can socialize, enjoy the sunshine, and get those Fat Bikes out while we still can. Slowest rider sets the pace. Anyone and their dogs are welcome. Tag your friends and spread the word.
