So it was our first church parade today and we got - two girls. I was feeling really unimpressed, and then I decided to try and look for the positives. So, heres why Im actually really proud! 1. We got two girls! Which means the church will have had the cnance to see some members of the unit they support. Church parade is a choice, so the fact they made the choice to come is something to celebrate. 2. We only got two girls! Which means the rest of the unit felt comfortable enough not to be there, for whatever reason. Weve all been in those units where church parade is a three line whip. My girls clearly know their opinions and choices are valued - and if it wasnt them that decided, my parents know it instead. 3. One of the girls that came has been one of our most difficult ones. With limited numbers I got lots of time with her, which has given me some great ideas for next term, and really helped me get to know her better. 4. On Friday, we took the girls over to the church buildingto have a look round. They asked some brilliant questions, and are now desperate to visit a mosque and a synagogue! Thats developing beliefs in actions. We also live in a very mutli-culteral area, but most ofthe unit are fairly white British. Making links with the other faith communities will be a massive step to showing them guiding really is for all. 5. The hcurch has been struggling with how to adapt things to younger members for a while. Because the girls were there, they made a huge effort, which helpedother young members of the church feel more at home. 6. The church members really welcomed both girls, and paid a lot of money for our cake sale - which means weve raised some money to send our amazing young leader to the Special Olympics! Funny how things look different when we take the time to really consider it! Id have loved more gir;ls - but today was a real sucess :D
