So its Race Day today, the race that apparently stops the nation... Ive always been a little at odds with the Melbourne Cup, on one hand Im not too sure that I support the idea of exploiting these wonderful animals for the sake of a race for our own pleasure, and I often wonder if it is entirely humane; on the other hand Im perplexed by societies need to dress up and go watch it? I think there is clearly 2 separate camps when it comes to the cup; those that go to the race and spend their money, and those that only bet on it, in order to try to win some money. Im definitely in the second category, as Ive never been to a race day event ever (not only because I think its a bit pretentious, but also because Ive never had the means to splurge on such an occasion - being the hard working, working class type, not the sociopath money spending type). So today, I do what I normally do and Ill go put on a few bets, in an attempt to try win some money to fund some equipment purchase. What is your thoughts on the cup?
