So...its been a few days. Talked to a couple of the employees today....Dave is going stir crazy. Already cleaned in front of his entire apartment complex. Abbey is in the yard planting of course. Sandy was in Peoria....probably shopping :O)! Joe N offered to help me do dishes when he came to pick up his check....lol. Gonna miss these people. I was thinking about the first summer we had the bowling alley. We closed for the summer to do renovations. I was in charge of the family reunion on my moms side of the family that year so of course I hosted it at the bowling alley. We had a ton of fun. We have a really big family and we were having corn on the cob. So I needed to shuck a LOT of corn. I decided to have a corn shucking contest.... let me just tell you...best idea ever. Got about 5 dozen ears of corn shucked in like a minute and a half...lol. Anyway, my cousin had brought a friend with her from NY. She must have thought we were a huge redneck family..... family reunion at a bowling alley and a corn shucking contest (it does sound pretty hick-tacular really...lol) Well...she WON the contest! So the prize of course was a bowling pin....with a hand drawn ear of corn in sharpie marker and I am sure some cheesy saying about being the winner. She was sooooo excited to win this! She took it on the plane with her back to NY....got searched and had to fight to keep it...but got to take it with her!! The point of this longwinded story is, I was thinking about that and the fact that there is a piece of the Chilli Bowl in NY!!!! And really if you think about it... there is a piece of the Chilli Bowl in memory form in probably every state of our nation and several foreign countries. This is establishment has held a special place for so many people over the years. I dont dare to think that the Colwells have been a part of the majority of those memories. I know we were just the tail end of the legacy.....but I am proud to say that we got to be a part of such a special place that lives a little bit in every person that grew up in Chillicothe....and then some. So this is the last post you will see from me about the Chilli Bowl...... Thanks so much for letting us be a part of this piece of history with you..... Shawna p.s........ If youve ever shucked corn at a bowling alley during a family reunion just to win a prize.......you might be a redneck! Goodnight all.
