So, its late. Or early. Whatever. Im not sleepy, and frankly, I dont WANT to go to bed. So Im looking for just any excuse to not turn in. I go to espn and start poking around. I read about the NCAA Womens tourney, and about Brandon Weeden signing with the Cowboys. I decide to scroll down the front page, and find this thing about 20 Years, 20 Firsts. Its about XGames firsts. And the article of the day is about Tony Hawks legendary 900. But its more than just that. Its about not just that one moment in time, but about the ripples in the waters that are action sports, the repercussions. How that trick touched the lives of the next generation of skaters and inspired them. So obviously, after reading the article, I HAD TO SEE IT. Hello, youtube. Bring me history. Bam, vignette on epictude. But wait. In the suggested videos, it advertises Danny Ways first competition. Well, Way is a LEGEND. So I must see this too! And Im transported to 1989, and what might have been the first vert aired on television EVER. haha. So Danny Way strikes a nerve. Memory floods. Ive seen him work before, on a demo disk. Danny Way vs. Rodney Mullen. Best damn skating I have EVER seen. I preferred Rodney, but Peewee preferred Danny. And THERE is the nerve. Peewee. Geez, I havent thought about that dude in a long time. I kinda miss him. Sure, he was immature and kinda had a substance issue, but who am I to judge? He was my friend. He tried to teach me how to skate. We had some REALLY good times. And then he just kinda disappeared. I hope hes okay, and happy and stuff. Thats it. Thats the whole point. 4am, insomnia, skateboarding, and reminiscing.
