So, last year for my birthday I walked over and back on the glorious Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, celebrating my transition to being a "senior citizen." This year, I begin my quest to discover a quietly inspiring place to walk in Fresno. Where I grew up, in Manhattan Beach, we had The Strand. You could walk on a flat surface for miles, accompanied by the sound of waves crashing and flowing forward and back, the salty smell of the ocean, the feel of a fresh breeze (and sometimes a gentle, soft fog). On my trips to Italy, I enjoyed the early evening tradition of passagiata. Walking down the main street of the town shopping district, arm in arm with il mio morito, being part of the age old practice of seeing and being seen, was lovely. So, that is my quest now, to find a place that is beautiful, and safe, and restorative to walk in Fresno...
