So lately Ive taken a new approach to my Back Squats. Instead of trying to work up to max sets and taking 5+ minute breaks between sets Im basing my top sets on conditioning. From the bar to my top set I take under 2 minutes between each set. So I do a set, reset my timer, load the bar, and once the timer hits 1:45 Im back to the bar getting ready to go again. So Ill work up as heavy as I can in these conditions on say Tuesday then on Saturday Ill do 3 sets at 90% of what I did Tuesday under the same conditions. Ive found that my strength in the Snatch/CJ/Squat is fine when I have plenty of rest. But under meet conditions Im very tired and miss lifts from fatigue. So this is part of my strategy to improve my recovery time. Also, this helps limit the total weight Im putting on my back right now while still slowly working back to heavy squats. Its really a win win.
