So lot of bad reviews are coming in for Maleficent. So here is my review. I did like it, I was actually expecting it to suck. I loved Sleeping Beauty and knew they were going to change too many important details of my beloved Disney Classic. Well they did! (SPOILERS!!) My biggest fear was that they were going to change the curse on Baby Aurora. They did change it a little, but not that drastically. They changed the names, and the enchanted gifts the good fairies bless the baby with. So much was changed & simplified about the 3 fairies that they were rather insignificant to the movie at all, plus they looked awful. Prince Philips kiss did not wake sleeping Aurora. Maleficent did not turn into a dragon.... Her Crow did. Maleficent had the other creatures of the forrest, but she was not graced with her goons. Unlike the original, Maleficent never angrily waited 16 years to find Aurora, because the goons were looking for a baby, but now Maleficent was part of Auroras whole childhood, allowing Maleficent to actually love Aurora enough to reconsider her curse. So they basically changed the entire story and plot of Sleeping Beauty. But as much as I would have rather they didnt rewrite a classic, I dont feel the movie deserved the bad reviews its currently receiving. The visuals were fantastic, the acting was great, and if I let go of my attachment of the original story, and judged this movie as its own entity, it was well done.
