So love this time of year, hearing these commencement speeches. This one from Dartmouth is just about one of the best I have listened to. I know most of us have seen, and have been moved by, Jim Carreys speech (see below), of asking the Universe, feel the hope, the love, the dream and it is all SO VERY GOOD and essential, but I do have to agree with Shondra that it must be accompanied by a certain amount of pragmatism, because as she says, you got to DO THE WORK. Dreams need legs. #10000HoursMatters I believe that, yes, you must make the shout out and ASK the Universe (Buddha, Jesus, God, Vishnu, or whoever gives you sustenance) for chances, for opportunities, but that is only one half of the covenant. I sometimes see these spiritual entities, with their arms crossed, leaning back in their chair saying, Yea, so, I hear you. I can help you with this, but what are YOU going to do about it? It is up to us, only us, to find the doorways, paths, people, to fulfillment. Be yourself, breathe this rare air says Shonda, and also never forget, as JimCarrey tells us, we all have a continuous choice: lead with LOVE or FEAR. #makesADifference BTW: the fear of passing out, dying, pooping while speaking? Seeing everything going in slow motion--that would be me. #hysterical
