So many dear friends have asked about Baby Coopers condition that - TopicsExpress

So many dear friends have asked about Baby Coopers condition that I cant possibly answer each individually and be available to care for my family, so I wrote this for everyone who has asked. I trust you all understand, and I will try to respond individually when time allows. Cooper was born at 12:36pm on Thursday, a planned c-section made necessary by Sawyers birth by unplanned c-section three years ago. He was lively and screaming loudly when born and after the nurses cleaned him up, I carried him to Kristis side while the obstetrician was finishing her surgery. We kissed and cuddled him, then the delivery room nurse took him back to the basinette to finish cleaning him, get footprints, etc. When she attached an oxygen sensor to his toe, his blood oxygen level was a bit low and continued to drop. After massaging him and suctioning his nose well, it still stayed low, so she called for the STABLE team, which is a SWAT team-like group of medics in blue vests who came running with duffle bags full of equipment. By the time they arrived, Coopers oxygen level had returned to a good level and stayed there, so they decided it was a one-time thing and left after examining him thoroughly. In the recovery area, the same thing happened twice, each time with the same result. After the third episode, our pediatrician, Dr. Chu, asked that Cooper be moved to NICU for observation. What they discovered is that his oxygen level decreases with any stress: touch, movement, loud noise, etc. After a day and a half of not being able to touch or hold our baby, we are now allowed to hold him skin-to-skin twice a day, for as long as we want each time. His oxygen levels have improved, but the cause has led to a lot of other questions and tests. Some of the possible answers for whats going on scare us to death. We just want our little boy to be whole and well and to be able to bring him home and love him and snuggle with him, just us four. But, we praise God for Mission Hospital and its staff! We have been blessed and loved and prayed over and encouraged and served by these wonderful people and without them, Cooper likely wouldnt have survived. Please continue to pray for us. We know Our Gracious God had a plan for our lives and its about His glory, not our comfort; yet, we know that in His love, He brings blessing from sorrow and uses every situation to bless those who love Him, so our trust and hope are in Him!
