So much in the news lately about the Keystone XL oil pipeline made me want to bring it the attention of our students during engineering club today. Students learned about where the pipeline is now and were the company would like to build a new one. We discussed the pros and cons of having part of the line travel through Nebraska. Students were challenged to build a pipeline that could carry water from one end to the other without leaking--not as easy as it sounds! Thinking like an engineer forces students to anticipate problems and find solutions to existing ones.
