So much of what is written in the Bible can only be understood if you have a strong grasp on Jewish, Roman, Greek history for the new testament and ancient history for the old testament. The truth is, if you have no knowledge of these things, you are going to misunderstand alot more than you understand. That is why the simple message of God coming in Christ and dying a death of absolute love for his enemies, is so often inconsistent with the way people interpret so much of the Bible.
