So much truth in this article. I can attest personally to the ‘sticker shock and anger’ many Americans are currently feeling . We received a letter a few weeks ago that our insurance company was terminating our ‘cheap because we are young and healthy’ plan and we would now be forced to choose a new one. If we want to keep the same coverage and deductible with the same company, our premium will increase from $375 to $925/mo. That means we will be paying more for health insurance than our 15yr MORTGAGE. What would I rather do with $6,600 next year? Put it into our Roth IRA’s? Our kids 529 plans? Remodel our bathroom increasing the equity in our home? No… we will instead spend it on additional health insurance premiums, essentially flushing it down the toilet. Don’t get me wrong, I believe insurance is extremely important and would never go without it for the sake of my family. But we already had more than adequate insurance for a lot less and now are being penalized for being young, healthy, self employed and successful. Im sure somebody is benefitting from this law, but it sure as heck isnt me and my family.
