So, my cool sister in law Hannah tagged me in the Ice Bucket Challenge. I watched the video as she bravely dumped ice water all over her head. (Hannah- lets make Sean do it!) I have a few thoughts about this challenge: The Ice Bucket Challenge has increased the ALS Association’s year over year donations by 750%. So many people are learning about ALS and are thinking about how they can help. Our generation doesn’t have the same culture of giving that previous generations have cultivated. It’s important to find new ways to engage people in charitable causes. Social media is a prime example of a tool that amplifies fundraising campaigns. As a professional in the world of fundraising development – I love this campaign. BUT there’s a catch, there’s always a catch. California is experiencing the worst drought on record and it just doesn’t seem right to dump a bucket of water on my head. Don’t get me wrong- many people live in places where water is in ample supply and I think a bucket of water is a small price to pay for encouraging ALS awareness. I really admire what everyone has done in relation to this recent ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and in honor of my sister in law completing the ice bucket challenge, I have made a contribution to the ALS Association.
