So, not everyone loves jazz - but it should still be a source of regional pride that GoGo Penguin has been shortlisted for the Mercury Prize. We were lucky enough to give the Chris Illingworth Trio one of its first ever gigs here at DC... although our fondest memory is of Chris performing John Cages 433 in the Crossley Gallery to the bemusement of the admin staff. They wont win (...the inclusion of jazz is only ever mere tokenism in the Mercury shindig) but its still a reminder that sometimes integrity DOES get rewarded.
