So now number 5 in my top 10 books and there has to be a cricket book in there. Why is it crcket literature is so much better than any other sport, especially football? Have you ever heard a footballer interviwed? Theres an answer there! I suppose as well its the subtleties of the game and the fact that it is both very much an individual game as well as a team sport. There are 3 books contending in this category, First, A Typhoon called Tyson an autobiography by fast bowler Frank Tyson. I have never read such a vivid description of the art of fast bowling or indeed any game skill as I have in this book. Secondly, there is the Art of Captaincy by Englands greatest captain, Mike Brearley. This is a book about man-management, tactics, motivation and psychology rather than pure cricket. But the winner has to be The History Of Cricket by Benny Green, a beautiful social history of England from Hambledon to the great West Indian team. It covers the history, the great teams and the individuals, great controversies and incredible individual performances. A wonderful read.
