So now that GM has decided to price the ELR where it should have - TopicsExpress

So now that GM has decided to price the ELR where it should have been in the first place, I went to look at one tonight for the wife and we have it overnight on an extended demo. For starters, anyone who thinks this car is just an expensive Volt is so confused I dont even know where to start. Is the core DNA the same? Maybe. But the experience is worlds apart, and worlds better. The ELRs suspension alone puts it in a whole other category, and then you factor in the steering feel and overall low NVH and this is one of the nicest cars Ive driven in a long time. Then theres the tech. Lots of tech. The adaptive cruise and LED intellibeam headlights are very cool. In fact all the LED lighting is stunning both inside and out. The seats are ridiculously comfortable, and the car actually has dual climate control (something missing in the Volt). And as for the power? In sport mode this car feels like it would trounce the Volt. Ill do a little impromptu test tomorrow and see where its at 0-60 time wise. Also when using gas as it was on the way home from the dealership tonight, the engine noise and vibration is definitely lower than the Volts. Downsides? The rear seats are virtually useless, but hey its a coupe, so thats not a deal killer. And while there are motorized doors and lids all over the car, the charge port door is weirdly not electric like the Volts. And then theres the price. Were thinking the number is going to come in around 58K + tax and licensing. Not bad, but not cheap either. We are going to sleep on it tonight and make a decision tomorrow, but regardless of our pulling the trigger or not, its a very nice car!
