So out of curiosity, I decided to fire up Google and see how many police officers have been killed in the line of duty (by gunfire) this year, versus how many people police have killed (by gunfire) in the same time period. According to the Officer Down Memorial Page here: odmp.org/search/year, 67 police officers have died in the line of duty this year, 27 of which have been due to gunfire. The other statistic... well thats a bit harder. According to this Mother Jones article: motherjones/politics/2014/08/police-shootings-michael-brown-ferguson-black-men, no agency appears to track the number of police shootings or killings of unarmed victims in a systematic, comprehensive way. I wonder why that is? Hrm....
