So sad, cruel and terrible! Another reason why we need to ban live animal export! "This Australian steer spent his last waking moments inside a contraption known as a ‘full inversion’ slaughter box in Egypt. His death — as well as the deaths of tens of thousands of animals who went before him — was prolonged, traumatic and painful. Once inside the box, he was immobilised, and then tipped off his feet and upside down in order to expose his neck for a fully conscious throat cut. This terrifying restraint method would be illegal in Australia and is condemned by the international scientific community as causing avoidable suffering and distress. Yet inconceivably these slaughter boxes have been deemed ‘acceptable’ under Australia’s new live export rules." - Information and photograph courtesy of Animals Australia. "This needs to change - NOW. We will not stop campaigning for an end to live export, but while it continues, there is an immediate need to outlaw cruel devices like this one. Our calls to government have so far fallen on deaf ears. So we are now calling on the Australian Cattle Council to back our calls — in knowing that most cattle producers would also shudder to think of the pain and terror caused by these contraptions. Allowing their use not only subjects Australian animals to extreme cruelty but it sends importing countries the damaging message that we accept such cruelty to animals."
