So..several folks have asked for winchesters story..here is what we know..he was born with a nuerological condition called high steppers we think..(the video below was from his family who surrendered him..this video is from about 7-8 months ago) he also suffered from occasional cluster seizures however they opted to only give him the phenobarbotal during those episodes if they kept him on it he had a harder time getting around (pheno has this effect even on dogs that do not normally have trouble moving this is also why our vet is having us try Keppra another antiseizure medication) he has always been a outside dog..he started loosing weight a few months ago (we discovered on arrival at the vet he was suffering from hook amd whip worm) we agreed to take Winchester after we got this video..we were also told at this time he had LOST weight since it was taken....we agreed two weeks ago to take him into houndsong. Fast forward to a week ago when a local rescue went to pick him up to temporarily foster him until we could arrange transport...this is when we discovered just how much weight he had lost..before anyone asks why the owner didnt take him to the vet..we r under the impression it was due to financial reasons and this was also why they were surrendering him..upon arriving at his temp foster he began having cluster seizures and ALOT of them so he was taken to the vet where they started valium and pheno to stop the seizures..they had to give him very large doses to stop the seizures..(are the seizures affiliated with the high steppers or a second issue? We do not know and the family never really tried to find out but we do know that anytime a dog suffers from 15 plus cluster seizures in a row they can struggle to recover) he was left at the hospital for several days in west virginia and on his release he was still unable to walk..then he had the abscesses rupture (pressure sores from being down ) so he was taken back to the vet for iv fluids and antibiotics. He was transported yesterday and already seems to be doing better..our vet felt the first step besides seeing the nuerologist was to get him up and moving..he needs to kind of Relearn how to walk after being down for a week..throw in the fact that he has no meat or muscle on him which of course doesnt help his ability to walk..NOW all that being said..the nuerologist is the key..what are we looking to find out? Will/Can Winchester get back to the dog in this video and still have a quality of life with some tlc, weight amd excercise? Or has he suffered irreversible damage from the last round of cluster seizures...we do not want him to suffer...BUT if he can get back to the dog below that could run and play all be it a little silly and funny looking (he had no clue he was different) or is the dog we r seeing that falls over and struggles to move what his future holds? This will tell us our next steps
