So the final lashing out at the new DA begins. Two of the best - TopicsExpress

So the final lashing out at the new DA begins. Two of the best prosecutors in the state are leaving. One is the only prosecutor who has ever been found guilty of violating the ethics rules in the history of the State of Maine and the other with a 90% loss rate for jury trials. I stand behind my decision 100%. Our communities deserve an ethical and effective DAs office and I will do what is necessary to make sure that is exactly what the voters who elected me get. I have good, ethical, effective and experienced lawyers who want to work for me and the people of Washington and Hancock Counties, but I am being portrayed as the bad guy for getting rid of ineffective employees who detract from the office and trying to replace them. Dont tell me that I cannot hire qualified, experienced people simply because I believe that staff needed to be changed. Are we never to remove a prosecutor from his or her post simply because of a budget policy that makes hiring a replacement impossible? What a scary policy. Where are the checks and balances to make sure qualified people are serving the public? Budget shortfalls and informal agreements between the DAs are simply ways that the established system has used to protect itself from outsiders getting too nosy or keeping the public informed. My policy will be one of transparency because my first duty is to the people of Hancock and Washington Counties, not the promotion of self serving policies. Again, I stand behind my decisions 100% because they are the right decisions. I am anxiously awaiting January 1st to get busy fixing the DAs office. No matter how badly it doesnt want to be fixed! ;)
