So the government is open...for a few months anyway. I am horribly pessimistic about the next few years regarding our nations leadership. I dont identify with a party. I believe what I believe, vote for the person I think will do the best job if representing the interests that I consider the most important to our nation, regardless of which party paid for the officials campaign. I regularly write to elected officials, previously by postal mail, but more recently electronically (after the post 9/11 anthrax scares that delay mail delivery to our elected officials). I routinely like the occasional political post that I relate to or find relevant or humorous. I also, from time to time, share these political posts when they really hit home for me (much less often than my likes on posts). I have lobbied Congress and walked the halls to stop in and proclaim my position on issues that are important to me. I have walked in organized, permitted marches on issues I find relevant. But just because I dont show up for a rally that you find relevant, doesnt make me less of a patriot. We all pick our own paths. My years of lobbying for issues that I believe are important to our nations future (Ive been lobbying since I was 14 in Washington DC!) as well as my service to our nation in the armed forces and my life as a civilian contributing to the economy and following (most...speeding excluded) laws as part of the social contract make me a damn great patriot. When a cause is presented to me and I passionately believe in it, I am there...or if not available, I may be communicating it in other ways. No need to assume that I am sitting on my ass not doing my part. Vent over. :-)
