So the hens have decided that nesting boxes are dumb. Several days ago, they kicked all the straw out of the boxes and then stood around mournfully because they couldnt figure out where the straw went. When Id go into the coop, Opal or Oprah would stand sadly next to the nest boxes and peer inside and then cluck sadly to themselves. So, I refilled them with straw and they managed to remove all of it but a tiny bit. No mites...no creepy crawlies...they just apparently dont approve of the level of straw and Im all out of straw. Being members of HENSA (chicken version of MENSA), they decided theyd make a nest on the floor NEXT to the nesting boxes and thats where theyve been happily laying eggs, in a community nest in some clean shavings. Ill get some new straw and fix up the boxes again...and then well take wagers as to how long theyll keep it in there. #HENSA #apparentlynotesttogetin
