So the official recount for the Merimbula RSL Cup has taken place, over and over and over again!!!!! Orbost win 51 points to Merimbula 50. Well done to Orbost who really did have a lot of very good teams this year. There were a few games that were technically classed as a forfeit and these were not recorded on the scoresheets - this is why we have a difference in the club scores. eg Cooma U10 girls forfeited their two games as they had a couple of girls in their team that were too old (turning 10). Cooma did the right thing and advised us at the very start of the day that they would be forfeiting those games but were obviously still very keen to play, which they did. We also had to forfeit a couple of games due to not following competition rules - we had a couple of U19 players who were told to change teams after the tournament started and they had already played their first game (not your fault to the players that were changed - you were only doing what you were told). I think we should just put this down to a lesson learned and we will know better next time. Our club has always played fairly and ethically, and if we didnt follow the rules then we need to admit it and award those that played to the rules. At the end of the day, our teams played extremely well and should be very proud of themselves, as should the coaches who helped so many players enjoy the day and gain some skills along the way.
