So there are many people out there posting that Black Friday - TopicsExpress

So there are many people out there posting that Black Friday originated from some slave trade sale that always happened the day after thanksgiving as a way to prepare for the winter harvesting season. Being curious as I am, I tried researching this and the shocking thing I found was that this revelation did not come to light till around the year 2012. I also noticed that any sites that had info on this negative connotation for the term Black Friday also had several other questionable truths about race relations in this country. I realize that w2e are living in a time where it seems like we have learned nothing from our past, here racism is alive and well, and where at times blacks feel like we are seen as less than 2/3s of a person that we counted as during slave days, but I assure you there is no need to make up stories about how everything is racist. There are more than enough bad things out there without creating false ones. The term Black Friday means that it is the day retailers go from the red (negative profits) to the black (positive profits) by offering deals that appear to be once in a lifetime deals to get people in the stores with the hope of them buying even more items while they are already shopping. The phrase originated from Philadelphia from the 1950s or 60s where cops tried to put a negative spin on the day that was overwhelmingly busy due to sales, people traveling home, and the Army/Navy game. Retailers later adopted it and it is now what we know it as today. Not everything in life is meant to be hurtful, lets be more positive in our post cause some people will believe anything.
