So theres a shit-storm whirling around Henry Rollins (2.13.61) right now over a piece he wrote in the LA Weekly about suicide and Robin Williams. Hank is a stand-up guy and offers an apology here, consequenceofsound.net/2014/08/henry-rollins-apologizes-for-comments-on-suicide-criticizing-robin-williams/ , to the people he hurt by the words in the original piece. The things is, a part of me want to agree with the first sentiments: suicide makes the survivors angry: angry that it happened, angry that they didnt see it coming, angry they didnt do something to stop it... & Hanks anger that anyone with kids has given up irrevocably any right to suicide? Yeah, I agree... One of my best friends killed himself a few years ago -- he was a successful attorney with 3 grown kids, one grandchild he doted on and another on the way... Yes, of course I try to understand what kind of darkness, what kind of pain, would drive my friend to this terrible, final act... but then comes back the anger: you left the ones you loved, the ones who needed you, you left them for the darkness... & all I can hear in my head is Stay here stay stay stay...
