So, this came in the mail today - a rerelease of one of Tangerine Dreams best soundtracks, Thief. This is one of those many soundtracks, like Blade Runner, where the official releases are botched, always missing some memorable tracks. The new release isnt perfect (see the first review on Amazon for details), but it corrects the problem of several earlier versions leaving off one track or another. The mastering sounds as good as Thief ever has. The release also includes fairly extensive liner notes. The soundtrack is one of the best of the Franke, Froese + Schmoelling incarnation of TD. It catches them right at the peak of the first wave of analog synths. Thief contains some of their most melodic, composed sounding tracks, but also some of their more abstract work. Key elements of the sound on Thief are ratcheted sequences, polyphonic analog pads & heavy guitar riffs. And, unlike some copies of the album, it includes the Craig Safan composition Confrontation!
