So this is my official day#1 trial with the elevation training - TopicsExpress

So this is my official day#1 trial with the elevation training mask. Im not ready to go out in public with this....if i go out for a run, its going to be in the dark. haha But I chose an activity thats not as cardiovascularly taxing (i.e. HIIT, heavy bag rounds, running) just to see how I feel. I dont want a workout being cut short because I passed out or something. :/ So I chose the PIYO Sweat workout to try with the training mask. So, those of you who ive trained in the past or who have worked out with me know that Im a huge stickler for proper breathing, control of breathing, etc. And those of you who kept that advice, noticed how much longer you can last if you are in control of your breath, which in turn helps you to control you body movements. If you are breathing erratically and crazy, your form gets all out of wack, increasing your risk for injury, and your breaths arent adequate enough to supply enough oxygen to your muscles. Mind over matter, right? (think any old school martial arts film, karate kid, or yodas advice. hahaha) Calm breath and mind, while the storm is raging within the body. I think you get my point. ANYWAY, wearing this mask DEFINITELY makes you EVEN MORE AWARE of your breathing. If you are not in control of your breathing, you will not be able to breathe in this mask. No joke. Those of you that know me, know that it takes a lot to get me winded. And if i do get winded, my recovery is relatively fast. I had this mask set at a 3,000 ft elevation. When you breathe in, it feels like very little is coming in. So for example, when you are working out hard and you try to take that deep inhalation in to get more oxygen in, you usually feel better. When you take that deep breath in, it feels like nothing is happening. I would imagine, a tool like this could cause some panic or anxiety for some people when they initially try it. 3/4 through the workout, I could feel my body acclimating to the decreased oxygen intake and I didnt feel like i was sucking wind too much anymore.... Lastly, you have to deal with the increased sweat around the mask area. The story of my life. haha I dunked that shit in sport tide and hot water. So far, thats all I can say about it for now. Perhaps this weekend Ill try it while working on the heavy bag and see how that goes.
