So this is the little mans story you all have been asking about. He was found in a drainage gutter during a bad rainstorm in Alabama. Thank goodness a good samaritan picked him up and got him to a friend who networked to find rescue. Thru the coordination and efforts of a lot of good hearted people he made his way thru the hands of several loving animal advocates and over to Florida with Save Underdogs. He is very very old. Probably 14+ years. He weighs about 5 pounds. He was coughing constantly and had difficulty breathing. I was afraid of congestive heart failure or severe heartworms but YAY, it was neither. He has a bad systemic infection, large abdominal tumor, some of the worst spinal arthritis I have seen (extremely painful doc says), rotten teeth, collapsing trachea, and a broken jaw (old injury). However, he can see and hear, his lungs sound good, his heart is strong and he is very happy to be alive!! He is on antibiotics and pain meds and received a series of nebulization treatments. He is doing great and feeling spunky. Dr. Culotta is going to do surgery this coming week and get him all fixed up so he can go live out his last years feeling good. The personality in this boy is just a joy! Thank goodness for people that go out of their way to help the helpless!! We were thinking of naming him Geezer because hes old, Gummy cuz he will have no teeth at all left, or Master Shifu from Kung Fun Panda. Haha maybe Master Shifu Gummy Geezer?
