So this issue is becoming topical again! As a Software Engineer for the last 13 years I think it is CRIMINAL that the powers who decide the national and secondary school curriculum have still not added computer programming as a core subject. Granted there has been some thought given in the addition of IT as an optional Junior Cert subject but coding needs to be ENTRENCHED in the minds of our kids from as early an age as possible. Initiatives in Galway (and globally) such as NUI Galway Youth Academy, Coderdojo etc are becoming increasingly popular because they are having to make up the shortfall. Clearly there is a need (and a want among kids) to learn coding at all ages and the sooner those aforementioned powers accede to this need the better IMO. Smart economy? Therell be no SMART in 10-15 years if we dont teach our kids NOW...
