So.............................this just happened!! As of this morning, after meeting with my Oncologist and going over my CT Scan................this girl is CANCER FREE!!!!!! Yes, God is good, and I cant thank my family, friends, and Facebook friends for all your prayers, well wishes, support, and love sent my way, this past year!! I felt it every day, and you really did help me through each and every day of the ups and downs! This truly is a miracle! I can not say enough good things about my wise, and wonderful Oncologist, who had the wisdom to ask for the genetic/DNA testing on my biopsy, which truly did turn the tide, I believe, in which direction my lung cancer took. Being able to find out that I had a rare type of lung cancer, and the ALK-4 type, and to have an Oncologist who knew about this type of cancer & drug, and knew of a Specialist, in Seattle, who even knew more about this special cancer, cutting edge drug, was a miracle in itself. My Oncologist said this is exactly what he had hoped to see on my scan! He said the lung nodule, because of the Xalcori (the specialty, cancer drug) had pretty much collapsed, onto itself. Dr. Willerford said the nodule is just a tiny, flat, speck and will always be there, but that its pretty much dead. Its kind of like a collapsed building. Its there, just taking up a very, small space. He said its highly unlikely cancer would ever come back from it. The lymph nodes in my chest, that were affected, are now normal and clean, especially the one that was on the opposite side of where the cancer was. He said if cancer did come back, it more than likely would be in the perimeter area of the radiation zone. Something that radiation, possibly, missed. He said those are more easily treatable, with a very short course of radiation, 2 or 3 days worth. I cant have radiation, anymore, on my right lung, or breast, but in other areas its still possible. He asked me how I felt about having my port removed, and he said he would recommend it. He said, its more of a risk now, than a help, and having that out would rule out any chance of infection from the port, and I wouldnt have to have it flushed, once a month. It is irritating, and Im so happy it can come out! My white cell count is up, considerably, and my red cell count is coming up. Its lower, still, because I was anemic through my last 2 chemos. He said healing from all the treatments will take time, but everything is on the upswing! The doctor said my cell counts are good enough where I dont have to be concerned about being around a lot of people, or infection. They were good enough that the doctor said I could get my flu and pneumonia vaccine, today, which I did. So, back in 3 months for blood work and a follow-up visit, then 6 months for another CT Scan!!! I can not tell you how blessed and grateful I feel for being in such, wonderful caring hands, this past year. My Cancer Team and Doctors were incredible! So wise and compassionate. Thank you to my loving daughters, my Son-In-Law, my grandchildren, my siblings, my Mom, Nieces & Nephew & extended family, for all your amazing love & support. I have the most wonderful family anyone could wish for. I am so looking forward to 2015, and moving on with my, healthier, life! One last thing, I just want all of you to know how much the love & support from family & friends means to a person going through cancer. It is so important. I truly feel you are the life line that makes all the positive, healthy things, happen, when a person is going through cancer. You keep us up, when we are down, and you keep us moving forward. I love you all, and will forever be grateful for each and everyone of you. God Bless, and Happy Thanksgiving! Onward!!!! Popmom Strong! :)
