So this was a letter I sent to our Governor Nikki Haley almost two years ago that was not responded to and re-sent 4 months ago that produced nothing of benefit to young friends in rural communities that would get them Further Faster Initiatives Inc. After reading this heartfelt letter I am wanting advice. Governor Haley, My name is Jesse Jordan. I am a 48 year old native South Carolinian, seeking opportunities to educate and inspire rural students throughout the Palmetto state. I hold an MA in Counseling. And, as a veteran of both the U.S. Army and Army Reserves, I served as an Infantry Airborne soldier and Drill Sergeant both stateside and abroad. While employed with non-profit youth-serving agencies in Myrtle Beach, I spent the last 15 years developing creative programming that can benefit a wide range of youth. Some of my best practices have been replicated in other non-profit programs throughout the Southeastern United States. I have traveled to and through 37 countries and territories, mostly for fun and adventure, and documented my experiences through photographs, videos, and journaling. Upon returning home, I crafted thought provoking experiences that promote both global citizenship and critical thought for high school students. I have recently returned from a year of teaching English in rural China with renewed enthusiasm to continue my efforts to get struggling youth further faster. I would like your help. I believe that my efforts are as dynamic and effective as the best programs in the nation. I have initiatives that may help reduce high school drop-out rates, allow qualified at-risk teens to work for their U.S. passports and drivers license, and earn “pocket money” by participating in both academic and art programming that pairs them as mentors with younger students . I have also impacted communities by creating physical youth-friendly spaces where dynamic programs can be effectively provided. My successes are built around smart and simple well coordinated activities that can be replicated in communities across our state. I have a stack of letters of testimony and support confirming that my approach is effective and highly respected. I am looking for a greater opportunity to influence greater numbers of youth. For many years I have been content to “tinker” quietly but I am now at a stage and age where I would like to step up my efforts to strengthen and advance youth in their pursuit of a better quality of life. I would love to be introduced to state and community leaders who could give me permission and the resources to demonstrate my excellence. I am currently in Tallahassee, Florida, promoting ideas with reputable agencies here but hope to return ‘home’ to South Carolina with a chance to have a role in helping you develop opportunities to strengthen our state of residence, one small community at a time. Please take a look at both ambassadorforyouth.blogspot and hellomynameisworldtravler and furtherfasterinitiatives for more insight and validation of my work. Most of what I have accomplished professionally is documented there, including letters of support from my last three “bosses”. I know you and your staff are extremely busy building a better South Carolina. I would appreciate your consideration of my offer and look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Jesse Jordan If I have some singular experiences that very well may change the way hard luck kids see themselves in pursuit of a life that has them simply acting as a U.S. citizen why am I having such a difficult time in accessing progressive programs that are reaching to teach these children? I am genuinely befuddled! Im tired of trying and wanting to give up on my belief that I can make a difference in this world in my lifetime. Anyway.
