So this year I have spent more time trying to create a mood with my wildlife photography rather than just getting up close to the subjects. I spent a lot more time observing and tracking various animals for periods of time sometimes a few hours or a few weeks. This really began to pay off with one particular location where I spent the summer following a Raccoon family, Rabbit, Owlets, and, a doe and her fawn. As the year comes to a close and I am in the process of beginning to compile my body of work for 2014. I am considering putting together a small book of local woodland creatures along with their stories. This Image is of a female Raccoon who is barely visible nursing her three kits in the hollow of a tree. She could have not cared in the least that I was there as I had spent many evenings with this Raccoon and her family, but the kits began to become more and more curious as they grew slowly turning into the furry little bandits they can be. Sadly this was one of the last encounters I had with them this year, and you can begin to see the bold confident look in the kits eyes as he draws you into his world.
