So...thoughts on the awesomeness that was this weekend... There are few people whom I trust that can truly handle the insanity of driving a shifter kart (that dont already drive one or have driven one in the past). Michelle Quinn is DEFINITELY one of them! She FINALLY gave ours a shot this weekend, and I think she was hooked! (No Jeff, Im not trying to steal her from FML...this year anyway). She caught on VERY quickly and, by the end of the weekend, was running well enough to be competitive in KML in Lincoln. The best part of it all though? Seeing that smile on her face when she took off her helmet - I knew she was having a blast!!! Now to work on getting Laura Levin to try autocrossing...then the kart. As for the kart itself, it ran near flawlessly all weekend. The only hiccup was the rear bumper breaking on Saturday (likely stress + vibration failure, as opposed to load bearing failure), but that was an easy enough fix on Saturday night. We also did a comparison between the (now discontinued) Hoosier R50s (2014 tires with about 15-20 runs) and the MG Greens (2013 tires with at 2-3x the runs of the Hoosiers), and the Greens STILL had more grip, especially in steady-state cornering (which matches the reports I had previously heard about them), and even Michelle, despite the frenzy of trying to be in the right gear at all times, said she noticed the difference in grip. They ended up proving about 1.5 seconds faster on a near 60-second course. It was still worth it to try to find an advantage, but it shows why the MG Green is still the gold standard for autocross....though I must say, its pretty damn cool to hear a shifter kart squeal the tires launching (and in a couple cases, even on the 1-2 shift), something I barely ever heard with the Greens...
