So today I decided to do something Ive been too scared to do in Paris until now -- dress up and go shopping at Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Prada, Chloe, Armani, etc. Turns out I neednt have dressed up. Most of the people at these stores were Mainland Chinese dressed in casual clothes and sneakers. Each store actually had a Chinese-speaking associate (likely Mandarin -- I couldnt tell). And if youre familiar with the Mainland Chinese, you probably know how it was -- lots of pushing, yelling, grabbing, interrupting, demanding, kids running all over the place. I knew the Chinese were crazy about brands, but I didnt expect this level of mayhem in luxury stores. This is why David and Victoria Beckham spend so much time promoting their brands in China -- the Chinese are the primary consumers of luxury items these days! Anyway, Ive been looking for a new pair of sunglasses, and I found a pair that I LOVED at Chanel. Not the kind of item Id splurge on every day, but for a special occasion? Absolutely. Its been a good day. :-)
