So today is the One Year Anniversary of the first time that Nessa - TopicsExpress

So today is the One Year Anniversary of the first time that Nessa contacted me and offered me an audition for the part of Johanna – so I thought I would celebrate by sharing some thoughts on what this series means to me. Johanna appeared, in all her pink glory, like a lifeline in a time of artistic drift. Although I had just completed my second acting training program, I decided to tie myself to school commitments for an additional year in order to complete my Bachelor’s of Education. As exciting as that decision was, it meant that for the first time in seven years I was unavailable to audition for any plays, which was starting to feel counter-productive to my actor brain. However, what I didn’t realize is that I had time for film. Film is fairly new and very scary to me, and had Nessa not contacted me (through Erika), I never would have considered this option. That being said – I am so grateful that the team took a chance on me by bringing me in, and that I took a chance on them too. When I received my sides it was love at first sight…err read. Naturally, the first episode I received for audition prep was “The Happy Rainbow Baking Show,” and I was hooked: by the strength writing, by the balance of comedy and tragedy, and by the girl who is so determined to smother her own neuroses with icing, sprinkles, and boys with British accents to chase away the darkness. And that was before Ryan had actually added the “muffins with icing” joke! Throughout the audition process, and even more so my first day on set, I realized something else: I had won the Web Series Lottery! Not only is “The Autobiography of Jane Eyre” well written, well organized, and well stocked with talented and lovely people to be around – this project is about, created by, and largely populated by strong women. It was extraordinarily refreshing to experience. The final icing on the muffin (I had to!) of course, is the fans. Being welcomed into the #AoJE family was incredible, and I so enjoyed reading your comments, creeping the Tumblr, and interacting with you on Twitter. Thank you for embracing me, and Johanna as a part of Jane’s story. I know that we were a small side-step on Jane’s journey, but being a part of “The Autobiography of Jane Eyre” has been a major chapter in my own story. Thank you. To Nessa and Erika, for bringing me on board. To Ryan and all the incredible writers for giving me such wonderful lines to horrify the fans with. To Sinead and the entire team for creating the wonderful world I got to step into. To Nixie and Alysson, for the most fun I’ve ever had being so very dysfunctional. To our fans, for tea, and socks, and support. You are wonderful! Because of you, I’ll always be willing to believe in rainbows.
