So tomorrow, I will be undergoing Leukapherisis again. This is a process similar to dialysis. Its purpose is to conduct research into alternative methods of introducing HIV medicines to those parts of the body where the virus pools. Areas such as the brain where the molecules of the medications cannot bypass the blood/brain barrier and therefore cannot be treated. The ultimate goal of this study, if successful, will alter the T-cells that will be extracted from my blood tomorrow, to allow the medication to reach those areas where the virus pools. We really are that close to a cure but like Moses, I can see the promised land.... But will I ultimately be granted entry? This procedure will have (zero) impact on my health. The experiments will be conducted externally and I will not know the results until the study is complete. But, one small T-cell from me... One giant hope for mankind
