So tomorrow starts the month of Breast Cancer Awareness and the swarm of pink will be around us. In the past I have always promoted the awareness of this month but this year it hits a little closer to home. On May 11th I found a lump and the journey began. Diagnosed on May 27th, double mastesctomy on June 25th and after an 8 week recovery period chemo started on Aug. 21st. My last 2 chemo treatments are scheduled for 10/2 and 10/28 and then my radiation will begin mid November. By the end of 2014 this preventative portion will be complete. After the first of the year I can concentrate on a couple reconstruction surgeries and getting back to somewhat of a normal life. Although this jouney has been a challenge I continue to thank God every morning for allowing me to wake up and start a new day. I have gone through many physical and mental changes but I remain strong and positive. My message is to get your mammograms, do self exams, keep your faith, stay strong, stay positive and wear Pink!!! I am hopeful that there will be a cure for not only breast cancer but all cancers.
