So we ( Rajiv Rowe and I) decided to do premarital counseling months ago and we started. Initially we took it lightly - thinking we already spend a lot of time together so we MUST know each other. Then God intervened- through our counselor, to highlight the importance of having CHRIST at the center of our relationship and LOVING CHRIST above even the person we are with. Before we knew it, our idea of what a relationship that leads to marriage was -started to change. Today we can say IT WAS WORTH going for PREMARITAL COUNSELING EVEN BEFORE WE DECIDED THAT WE WOULD TAKE THE NEXT STEP. Not saying it fixes everything BUT what it does is help you as a couple to identify and communicate about our fears, desires, beliefs, values, dreams, needs, and other issues and baggage that was previously avoided or denied OR never discussed before. While we are only JUST engaged, I still want to emphasize the importance of getting counseling BEFORE anything. Seemed a little unorthodox but.... It really highlighted why CHRIST is the MOST IMPORTANT ingredient in and future/ lasting marriage.
