So we have a racist attack on a Brisbane train. Let’s take a closer look at this. Was it really racist? Most definitely and a disgusting attack at that! What races are involved? We one does appear to be of African origin and the other looks to be of Middle Eastern appearance. His facebook states his name is Kader Boumzer, and ‘his’ command of English is not good enough to be deriding others over and his pronunciations resemble those from the Middle East. The media have been quick to label this as a racist attack by an Australian. So what is an Australian? A piece of paper does not make you one, neither does being born here! Being Australian comes from the within and encompasses a whole range of things and is not something you can buy or attain by crossing a border. Some are can attain this 5 minutes after arriving, either by already having similar values or being totally open to a new way of life and accepting it head on. Others can be of several generations in this country and because of ideologies that are incompatible with our way of life, will never be truly Australian. The train guard in this instance acted in an exemplary manner, even when some ‘real Australians’, gave him some support and he even stopped then from intervening. This train guard appears to have what it takes to become an Aussie and I wish him all the best and hope he is never subjected to this type of behaviour again.
