So we just returned home about an hour ago from our appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. Thanking God for a wonderful, competent team... They were very thorough and clearly knew what they were doing compared to the doctor we seen at Monticello last night. They cut off the pink make-shift cast that never should have been (it was literally a joke/spectacle amongst the nurses today!) and reset it in a proper splint until his surgery tomorrow afternoon/evening at Mercy Hospital. Once he had the cast off, his pain levels began to improve almost instantly. The good news is that he should not need any plates/screws, though he may still need pins to hold his bones in place while they heal. The surgeon expects he should make a solid and full recovery without complication, and be back in time for basketball season. The bad news is that he has multiple fractures, including the two main wrist bones, and they are literally compressed upwards into his growth plate, so they will have to be adjusted into place during surgery tomorrow night, before being set into a cast. Which means he is definitely out of football the rest of the season. Hes definitely bummed, but trying to keep a good attitude. Please pray for wisdom for his surgical team that all goes well without any further complications. Since he wont be eating beyond breakfast tomorrow in preparation for his surgery, we ended the day with a stop over at Sonic for a quick bite to eat! :) Here are some before/afters of his cast to splint transformation today...
