So… we on the NightWings team wanted to say a huge Merry Xmas to all our friends and readers - without putting a santa hat on a possum or posing a frog in a xmas tree. Instead we have chosen a pretty, but unashamedly tenuous link. Think xmas… think colour green… think local wildlife… and we have… The Green Scarab Beetle (Ischiopsopha wallacei). Often called a Christmas beetle, this is actually a Flower Chafer, but hey - it’s xmas. Very common in the whole Wet Tropics region, where it just loves flowers such as those of Archontophoenix aleaxandrae (Alexander Palm), this little creature truly is a stunning living jewel with its spectacular metallic green colouring. When the Alexanders flower here, the inflorescences are just covered in little whirring green metallic helicopters. Have a great day everyone and be safe. (The NightWings Team).
