So what are the problems with the budget? Overall the sad fact is were still running in deficit so if anything it may not be enough - but what problems can we expect to see rise from the cuts that have been made? For one I see reduction in science funding and the privatization of university fees as somewhat tragic. Whilst I dont support endless arts degrees if there is any one thing that will carry us out of the mining boom - its education. Furthermore a 6% interest rate? on these degrees is pretty ridiculous considering that current mortgage rates are less than that - meaning the government is planning on profiting off your debt. On another note I have a lot of hope for the health research fund as long as we retain some sort of patent commission from discoveries which are made. If so it could be a very smart long term investment as health is going to be one of the big kickers in the long term.
