So, what do 19th century Whigs hold in common with the 21st century Republican Party? A profound lack of moral and political principles, that’s what. Unprincipled Republicans would rather compete with Democrats for Hispanic votes the old-fashioned way – buying them with tax dollars. History, however, clearly shows that Democrats will always outbid Republicans – especially since it’s OPM – Other People’s Money. The current Republican leadership is locked in a vicious cycle with Democrats to outbid each other in an attempt to maintain political power. America’s decline in personal and economic freedom accelerates as a result. The Republican Party is close to seeing a massive defection by those who believe freedom is a higher principle than auction house politics. Would I abandon the party of Lincoln to join a Freedom Party coalition of Americans tired with, as Palin is prone to say, Washington’s “politics as usual”? To quote Palin once again, “Yeah.”
