So who ever heard of putting duct work on top of a roof exposed to the elements in climates of snow and ice. We install the new Duro-last roof 3 years ago on this building. The owner of a commercial building downtown Steamboat Springs called frantically as water is leaking in on top of of the jewelry stores display case. Heres what we found there was nothing wrong with our newly installed Duro-last roof, instead we found the duct trunk at the seams was letting water into the vent area. Surprisingly this is very common in our community of downtown Steamboat Springs Colorado since most of the buildings are flat roofs and were built in the early 1900 there was no need or technology that offered air conditioning and forced air heat. But as you can see with time and technology advancements the HVAC guys had to run the duck work on the top side of the roof. This exposed the metal boxes to elements such as ice and snow weight. These elements compromise the structural integrity of the ductwork trunk. It can be costly to replace these ducts. So we came up with a solution with a product called Protecto wrap that has a tin foil with a bitumen backing to wrap the trunks completely in water proofing them.
