So who gave Grace Marufu the Ph.D? We had to do a bit of digging to get some facts, throw bricks at us if we are wrong. Our understanding is that the University Council is the Administrator or owner of the University, sort of a trustee of the institution. Now legally it is the Trustees who are answerable should things go wrong. Now who are these trustees for UZ? We got a website which gave 6 of them (instead of the so many according to the UZ act ). We have Chairman of Council is Dr Washington Mbizvo who is the permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, next on the line is Mr. Albert Noel Nduna, then Professor Lovemore Madhuku, Professor Fredrick Zindi, Ms Angeline Paradza and Mrs Nester Mukwehwa. Now assuming that the UZ website that gave these names as the only council members is correct, then these people, together with the ex-oficio members of Council who are: The Chancellor Robert Matibili Mugabe, Vice Chancellor Levy Nyagura etc, these are the people who are answerable to Graces doggy Ph.D. Now our interest is on Lovemore Madhuku. This fella was a mere suspended lawyer after squandering clients money. He was then dismissed from practicing law by the Law Society of Zimbabwe. He then turned into an activist taking over NCA from Tsvangirai who had started MDC. All of a sudden we hear Madhuku is now moved from Mr madhuku to Professor Madhuku. No offense intended. He is one of the UZ Council members. He is one who by law authorized that Grace be given the Ph.D. But now he is also an opposition leader in Harare. His party is called NCA and the party never said anything about Ph.DGate. The other council members need no introduction. They are all Mugabes wives as Margaret Dongo put it. So we would understand why they gave the Ph.D to another Mugabes wife. But now Grace says that the Ph.D is not so important. Imagine after spending at least 4 years studying why orphans dont have parents, she now says that such efforts are useless. At one of her meet the people tours she shouts You might have the title, but fail to garner the respect from the people… I can be called First Lady or Doctor Mugabe and put certificates on the walls of my house, but that certificate is not the one that will work. Hoo nhai? Asijiki.
