So, why did so many vote No? Even in Scotland there are folks who believe in the supremacy of the British State, whether or not they accept its House of Lords, archaic establishment institutions and its feudal concepts of social order. There are folks who didnt trust and even some who didnt understand the arguments for a separate Scotland. There are folks whose loyalty to their Political Party was all the argument they needed. And there are folks who bought the bribe of additional powers. There is enough scope for analysis in that lot to build a better case for next time: because this is not the end of the road for Independence. This campaign has instigated a constitutional upheaval which will bring change to all of these islands and probably bring an end to what we understand as the United Kingdom. Second point: just who won. The Conservatives of course. Not only did they get The Scottish Labour Party and Gordon Brown to save the Union for the Tories; so handicapping them for the next Scottish Parliament elections; they anticipated additional powers as a UK solution and means of addressing the West Lothian question, thereby partially reducing the Labour vote in Westminster. As a bonus, Ed Milliband looked uncomfortable and unconvincing on his visits North.
