So why is the American left willing to accept a Hamas (a right-wing organization) victory in Gaza but not the victory of right-wing Ukrainian nationalists in Kiev? The only people I saw calling for Israel to bomb the shit out Gaza were on the right. No, correct that. There were some liberals. But most people on the left said were not always going to like people who win elections. So is it all about electoral politics? Have Marxists suddenly turned into people who fetishize the voting booth? Ive seen a lot of knee jerk accusations that the uprising in Ukraine was simply astroturfed by the United States. But if you look at the history of Ukraine and the history of Stalinism, youre probably going to conclude that lots of people there are right-wing nationalists. So has the American left suddenly become reactionary and authoritarian? ANY uprising from the right (even if it represents a majority of people) is illegitimate? You only take power by voting?
